[Guanglin's Weekly Diary] #008: The World is My Choice

Cover

"Listen and Watch" - Lugu Lake

Lugu Lake
Lugu Lake
Ma Yuan Poet

A live performance recommended by the third issue of "Le Xia", the first time I heard this song and the first time I knew about the band "Ma Yuan Poet", but after listening to this live performance, I remembered it. The lead singer's unique voice is very distinctive, even a "broken gong voice"... In the live performance, the song is filled with a painful and pessimistic mood. Every time the lyrics mention "bright lights, brilliant lights", the next line goes back to "but I want darkness", such a choice is too bitter and heavy. What attracts me outside of the live performance is the sincere atmosphere emitted by the band before and after the performance, as well as their awe of the stage. It's really good.

  1. The world is my choice

A few months ago, through organizing my bookmarks and information channels, I further realized how important it is to organize and optimize. I no longer accept and bear the pressure brought by various information disorderly, and I have gained more control over the information.

And recently, I did something that cannot be mentioned, which made me realize that the way I observe the world is how the world observes me. Being responsible for my own choices is also the same train of thought: I need to organize my choices. How to understand this sentence? This requires that in making any choices in the future, I must have a certain level of awareness and self-clarity, which allows me to have control over my own choices: these are the choices I made, not others, and I have to bear the consequences of the choices I made; at the same time, it also requires me to accept and bear the consequences of the choices I made in the past, whether they were right or wrong, just like what @VicodinXYZ said: "Accepting something does not mean refusing to change it. In fact, it is the opposite. You cannot change something you cannot accept." So maybe after I take this step, the whole picture will become clearer than before, and I will take a step forward on the path of minimalism and reducing entropy.

At this moment, another voice in my mind tells me, why bother to resist entropy? This is the law of the universe. Yes, it is, just like when I clean my room at home, I often need reminders from Teacher K. It doesn't bother me to be scolded 😄

During the week, I had such a thought. When I was organizing my weekly journal on the weekend, I saw the first article in "Articles with Gains" here, which resonated with me in a way that I had never experienced before this thought appeared. This resonance tells me that it is like this, "Any big event does not happen overnight, but is composed of hundreds and thousands of daily small things." My life is my choice, my state is my choice, and my world is also my choice. There is a view of psychologist Adler here.

  1. A stone from Korea

Teacher K went to Korea for a week of vacation and came back feeling much lighter. She also brought back a stone from a foreign country, which I found quite interesting. When an object is given a story, it is no longer ordinary~

Instead of Restarting, Try Repairing and Maintaining#

We are immersed in various fascinating possibilities, neglecting what we have already obtained. We have countless choices, whether it's a new application, a new phone, a new car, a new house, a new job, a new city, or a new spouse. And their promise is always the same: this thing will make you happy. Don't try to repair what you already have, just get something new and start over.

For most things, we can choose to repair and maintain them instead of throwing them away and getting something new, as consumerism advocates.

The article magnifies the choice between new and repair. But in fact, it is all about this sentence: "Any big event does not happen overnight, but is composed of hundreds and thousands of daily small things." New things always attract people. A new love may be more perfect than the current one, and a brand new toy may be cleaner than a broken one. Perhaps, there is always such a possibility, and there is also value in repairing what already exists. After all, it is a personal choice, but how to choose, there must be a clear understanding, rather than making choices most of the time based on inertia. The road we choose is built step by step, isn't it?

In-depth Discussion: Is MBTI Useful?#

One simple truth is that what MBTI measures is not the "real self" in the usual sense, but the "self I want to be". Some people may say: But I don't agree with the result of the test, I think it's not accurate, or I'm a little surprised, I didn't expect it to be this result, what does that mean? This is interesting. It means that you have conflicting views on your inner self.

Why is MBTI still so popular despite the psychology community's dislike of it? The reason is simple: we both desire to be different from others and desire the existence of similar people.

This is a very detailed discussion on MBTI. Most people take this test for fun. After taking the test, it showed that my personality type is INFJ-A, but when I looked closely, the introverted percentage was only over 50, so it's not completely an "I" person. I don't agree 🫣.

Recommendation: A Method to Read Any Book#

It is necessary to broaden our horizons through reading different fields of books, because a history book can explain the world from a historical perspective, and an economics book can explain the world from an economic perspective. This is the richness and diversity of the world. It is impossible to explain everything from a single perspective.

How to thoroughly read a book? Choose a book you like and read it again, spending several months, reading a little every day, repeating it multiple times. On the day you finish it, you will find that you have read a completely new book.

It happened that I came across a compilation of general knowledge book lists, including books from various fields, divided into 50 introductory books and over 1000 advanced books. It's quite thoughtful, so I recommend it. In the original article, He Cai Tou's method of reading is driven by interest, starting with something simple, and then repeating it. Yesterday, I heard a podcast in Xiaoyuzhou, which discussed the topic of love using scientific rationality. I was interested, but didn't understand it the first time and missed many details. The second time I listened, it became much clearer.

ClearURLs - Extension to Remove Useless URL Parameters#

image-20230819132951023

After installing this extension, it can automatically remove useless parameters from the browser's address, making the links cleaner and more concise. You can also click on the extension in the browser to manually enter the shortened URL. I tried it, and not every website's address can be as clean as the one in the picture, but it's better than nothing.
