This week, on July 5th, the news of Coco Li Wen's suicide due to depression shocked us who were used to her existence. An era is desolate, but we will never forget her works. Let's listen to a classic and niche song. I didn't realize it before, but now looking back, the songs we used to listen to were really good.
It will be sunny one day#
I have found that a person's mood and feelings about the world are similar to the weather. There are some obvious things about the weather: it is real. It does not change according to your will. If it is dark and raining, it is really dark and wet. You can't change it. It may be cloudy and rainy for two weeks in a row.
But, there will be a sunny day.
Just as a person must accept the weather, sometimes a person must accept their own feelings about life. "Today is a bad day" is a very realistic approach. It is all to find a mental umbrella.
"Hey, it's raining inside, it's not my fault, I can't do anything about it, I can only sit and wait. But tomorrow the sun is likely to come out, and when it does, I will enjoy it."
Stephen Fry's reply to a lady who was experiencing a depressive episode reminded me of a similar viewpoint I saw immediately here. Depression is like a broken bone, both are objectively difficult to heal immediately, and one must stop and not move at least for safety, without self-blame. Still, like a broken bone, one should not expect it to heal immediately. It takes time to recover from an illness, but one thing is certain: when the illness is cured, we will be able to stand up and run fearlessly, just like before.
A Guide to Young People's Physical Examination 01: What to Check in the Examination#
All these changes do not happen overnight, so young people tend to be healthier than older people. Although the process of atherosclerosis of blood vessels begins at birth, and cervical spondylosis begins silently at the age of 10, various diseases may gradually manifest symptoms until middle and old age. Also, due to the progression of diseases, the previous generation often has a wrong idea - we have never heard of physical examinations before, and we have lived well for more than half of our lives, haven't we?
A very detailed guide on why young people should have physical examinations, what to check in the examinations, the content indicators and cost comparisons of various items, as well as precautions before and after the examinations, etc. The author even thoughtfully shared his suggestions on what should be included in a family medicine cabinet, which is also very practical. I was a little surprised by the amount of work the author put into this article, and it reminded me to make an appointment while the company is offering physical examinations.
Improving the Happiness of Living Alone: Doing Housework Even When You're Alone#
The advantage of doing housework alone is this: there is no one to "evaluate" the results of your labor. Any housework only needs to meet the standards that "I" can accept, and it is "good enough". When another person is involved, housework as a "labor" may encounter various judgments: the new detergent smells bad; why do we eat potatoes every day; the floor is dirty today. Saying it out loud seems to disrespect the labor results of others, but not saying it out loud will deepen the resentment in the heart. Sometimes, when you want someone to share the housework, you may have such concerns: will it really be easier with more people helping?
I am someone who tends to prioritize the trivial matters of life, and it is highly likely that I will have a hard time taking care of all aspects of tidying up the room and doing housework. So this article opened up my imagination to some extent. Maybe in the future, if I want to, I can start in this way. It's okay to imitate, after all, everyone's habits can still change.
Steve's Talk - Women's Self-Defense Tutorial#
I have been listening to Steve's podcast for a long time, but I didn't expect that there would be a video tutorial on women's self-defense on Bilibili. Maybe it's because he has been learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he invited James, a black belt instructor, to demonstrate how women can escape when facing danger. It's very practical!
Xu Yun's Wandering China - 0704#
A user's comment in the comments section said what I wanted to say after watching this video: "The last clip, which is less than a minute long, is in my personal evaluation the best Xu Yun has ever done. With dream-like background music playing, when the cat walks towards the camera, the dairy farmer, the car, the bungalow, the little crow, the child, the herd of horses, the power pole, the football field, the blue sky, the mountains, everything seems real, but everything also seems unreal. I never thought I would be so shocked by something on the internet. For me, who may be forced to live in a concrete jungle of a third-tier city for the rest of my life, unable to break free, these few seconds have healed me too much."
I discovered that Xu Yun is getting better and better at making videos. After shooting the bumpy daily life (especially this episode, where the image stabilization was forgotten, making it even bumpier...), he added a piece of light music as background music, and I realized that the scenery of the journey is still so beautiful.
Threads#
This week's hot product is Meta's new work, a social app called Threads, which is in competition with Musk's Twitter. With the ability to use Instagram account registration, based on the 2 billion monthly active users of Instagram, it has already surpassed 12 million registrations in less than half a day and has soared to the top of the App Store rankings in over 65 countries. It's quite terrifying. From my personal experience, the functionality is not yet fully open, there are no tags, and you can't search for text. You can only see a messy timeline of posts from both followed and unfollowed accounts. I'm a bit curious about how long this level of activity will last and what future feature updates will bring.
Snapdrop - Cross-Platform File Transfer#
A must-have for multi-platform devices. I have Android phones, a Windows computer, an iPhone, an iPad, a MacBook, and other devices at home. Apple devices can transfer files relatively easily, but it becomes more complicated when it comes to cross-platform transfers. In the past, I would usually upload and copy a link to Baidu Cloud or Niu Kuai Chuan for Apple-to-Apple transfers. Now it's much more convenient, just open the website and transfer files directly.
Memo#
I discovered a very useful tool that can be used to download videos with just one click and convert podcasts to text. However, it is still in beta testing, and you can apply for beta testing in advance by adding WeChat: memoHQ. I applied to try out an audio-to-text conversion, and it was very convenient. The interface design is also very good. I look forward to the official release of the product.
Stable Diffusion - New Skin Lobe Theme#
It's been a while since I paid attention to the progress of Stable Diffusion, but I didn't expect that there would be a high-end theme optimization. This skin was designed by an engineer from Ant Design, and the installation process is also very simple.
Stressful Dream#
I had a dream at three o'clock in the morning on Wednesday and recorded it: "In a room, like my parents' living room now, there were my parents and K teacher, four people in total. My parents were sitting on the sofa, and she was on the side. There was a large old Muji floor fan in the room, a wide floor fan with two heads side by side, but it could only blow on one side and couldn't reach K teacher. So I wanted to change the angle of the fan to make all three people feel the breeze. But when I was moving it, I was too stupid and lifted the fan up, and I needed to support it with my body to keep the fan balanced. I couldn't put it on the ground from my body. I heard laughter, and my parents were laughing at me, but they immediately realized it and became concerned about me. Maybe it was because I did something very stupid and was laughed at; maybe it was because my parents sensed my sensitivity; maybe it was because I didn't intentionally do such a stupid thing, and I felt wronged." In that instant, tears streamed down my face, and big tears wetted my eye mask. The feeling of being choked made it difficult for me to breathe through my nose. I realized that I had woken up from crying in my sleep. During the day, I shared this with close friends, and they all expressed their concern, which touched me a little. They said I am a kind and innocent person at heart. The AI dream interpretation also made some sense.
End of Performance Review#
The focus of my work this week was on the mid-year performance review. The reason was that it was my first performance review since joining this company and my first mid-year review since starting work. It was inevitable that I would be a little nervous. However, after the schedule was changed to a one-on-one meeting with the senior leader, my leader reassured me that the format had changed, so there was no need to be too anxious. And indeed, the mid-year review on Friday went smoothly. After the one-on-one meeting, the senior leader even informed me that I was nominated for the team progress award at the mid-year annual meeting and asked me to say a few words when receiving the award on Monday. Awkwardness and nervousness started again... But still, I enjoyed the good mood on Friday after the performance review.
